Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: 31st May – Srinagar Arrival and Local Sightseeing

Upon your arrival in Srinagar, you’ll start your journey by checking into your accommodation, which could be a hotel or a houseboat floating on Dal Lake. After settling in, you’ll embark on a day of local sightseeing in Srinagar. You can visit the iconic Mughal Gardens, including Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, showcasing the exquisite Mughal horticultural designs. Stroll through the old city with its narrow streets, bustling markets, and historical architecture. Don’t miss the chance to experience the serene beauty of Dal Lake with a Shikara ride, where you’ll witness the unique floating gardens and houseboats that are synonymous with Kashmir. Your first night will be spent in Srinagar.

Day 2: 1st June – Srinagar to Gulmarg and Back

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll embark on a day trip from Srinagar to Gulmarg, a stunning hill station known for its lush green meadows and breathtaking landscapes. While in Gulmarg, explore the scenic beauty, visit the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the world’s highest cable cars, and consider indulging in activities like horse riding or simply relishing the picturesque surroundings. Later in the evening, return to Srinagar, where you’ll spend the night in the comfort of your chosen accommodation.

Day 3: 2nd June – Srinagar to Kargil

On this day, you’ll bid farewell to Srinagar after breakfast and begin your journey to Kargil, a picturesque town nestled in the Ladakh region. As you traverse the dramatic landscape, you’ll make stops at significant places like Sonamarg, the Zoji La Pass, and the Drass War Memorial. These locations offer historical and natural insights into the region’s beauty and its role in India’s history. Upon reaching Kargil, check in to your hotel and rest for the night in this serene mountain town.

Day 4: 3rd June – Kargil to Leh

Following breakfast, it’s time to proceed on your adventure towards Leh. Along the way, take in the stunning scenery and make stops at Lamayuru Monastery, known for its unique moonscape, Indus Zanskar Sngam. Upon reaching Leh, the largest town in Ladakh, check into your hotel and spend your evening exploring the local market at own where you can find traditional handicrafts and delicious local cuisine. Rest up for the upcoming days of exploration.

Day 5: 4th June – Leh – Sham Valley tour + Local sightseeing After breakfast, we have a full day trip covering Alchi Monastery, Lekir Monastery, Indus Zanskar Sangam, and Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. In Leh, visit the Hall of Fame, Leh Palace, Namgyal Tsemo, and Shanti Stupa. In the evening, you are free to explore the local market at your own pace, which is within walking distance from the hotel. Dinner and night stay will be at the hotel in Leh.

Day 6: 5th June – Leh to Nubra Valley After an early breakfast, depart for Nubra Valley, one of Ladakh’s most beautiful regions. Your route will take you through the famous Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable passes in the world. In Nubra Valley, visit Diskit Monastery and the enchanting sand dunes of Hunder. Enjoy a camel ride in the sand dunes and soak in the natural beauty. Overnight stay in Nubra Valley.

Day 7: 6th June – Nubra Valley to Pangong

After breakfast, you’ll head to Pangong Lake, a high-altitude lake known for its stunning colors. The journey will take you through Shyok Valley, offering mesmerizing views. Upon reaching Pangong, explore the area and spend the night in a camp near the lake, surrounded by the pristine beauty of the region.

Day 8: 7th June – Pangong to Leh

In the morning, take in the beauty of Pangong Lake before heading back to Leh via Changla Pass. You’ll pass through the picturesque landscapes of Ladakh once again. On your return to Leh, visit Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery. Check in at your hotel in Leh and have a relaxing evening.

Day 9: 8th June – Departure

After breakfast drop to the Leh airport.

What to Carry

A Trans-Himalayan road trip can be an exciting adventure, but it’s essential to be well-prepared to ensure a safe and comfortable journey. Here’s a list of items and essentials to carry for your trip:

1. CLOTHING:

  • Layered clothing for varying weather conditions (including thermals, fleece, and waterproof jackets).
  • Warm clothing, even if traveling during the summer, as high altitudes can get cold.
  • Comfortable and sturdy shoes for walking.
  • Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect against high-altitude sun exposure.
  • Gloves and a beanie for colder nights.

2. FOOD AND WATER:

  • Sufficient food and snacks for your journey, as remote areas may have limited access to restaurants or stores. We recommend carrying dry fruits.
  • At least 2 liters of water at any time.

3. HEALTH AND SAFETY:

  • Basic medical kit with essential medicines and first-aid supplies.
  • Personal prescription medications.
  • High-altitude sickness prevention medications (consult a healthcare professional). In search, Tso Moriri and Pangong the origin level is low.
  • Face masks and hand sanitizer (for travel during pandemic times).
  • Travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and road trips.

4. MISCELLANEOUS:

  • Cash in local currency for remote areas with limited banking services.
  • Camera and binoculars for capturing the stunning landscapes.
  • Power banks and chargers for electronic devices.
  • Ziplock bags for organising and storing small items.
