Itinerary
Day 1: Amritsar Arrival and Sightseeing**
Upon arrival in Amritsar, known for its rich Sikh heritage, your journey begins. In the afternoon visit the famous Agha Border and later you’ll visit the iconic Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), an essential pilgrimage site for Sikhs. Afterward, you can explore the historic Jallianwala Bagh and its poignant history. This day will also be an opportunity to savour authentic Punjabi cuisine at a local restaurant before settling in for an overnight stay in Amritsar.
Day 2: Amritsar to Katra Transfers and Temple Visit**
Following breakfast, your journey takes you to Katra, the starting point for the Vaishno Devi Temple pilgrimage. Upon arrival, you’ll check in to your Katra accommodation. In the evening, you can commence your trek to the Vaishno Devi Temple or opt for a helicopter ride if available. After darshan (temple visit), you’ll return to your Katra hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Katra**
The day in Katra is free for you to explore at your own pace. If you didn’t visit the Vaishno Devi Temple the previous day, this is the perfect opportunity. You can also take the time to wander through local markets and appreciate the serene ambiance of Katra before retiring for the night.
Day 4: Katra to Pahalgam**
Today, you’ll check out from your Katra hotel and embark on a picturesque drive to Pahalgam, a journey that takes approximately 6-7 hours. Upon reaching Pahalgam, you’ll check in to your hotel. The evening offers the chance to explore the stunning natural surroundings and savour the tranquil atmosphere of Pahalgam, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 5: Pahalgam to Gulmarg Transfers**
After breakfast, visit Aru Valley Betab Valley and Chandanwari (at own cost) in the afternoon it’s time to leave for Gulmarg, a drive of about 3-4 hours that treats you to breathtaking landscapes and lush green meadows. Once you arrive in Gulmarg, you’ll check in to your accommodation. You might have some free time to explore the Gulmarg market or take a leisurely walk before settling in for the night.
Day 6: Gulmarg to Srinagar**
Your day begins with a visit to the famous Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars globally, offering awe-inspiring views. Following this adventure, you’ll head to Srinagar, a journey that typically takes 1-2 hours. Upon arrival in Srinagar, you’ll check in to your houseboat or hotel. In the evening, a serene shikara (traditional wooden boat) ride on Dal Lake awaits, setting the stage for a restful night.
Day 7: Srinagar to Sonmarg Day Trip**
On this day, you’ll venture to Sonmarg, a picturesque 2-3 hour drive from Srinagar. Here, you can explore the breathtaking landscapes, and if you’re feeling adventurous, partake in outdoor activities like pony rides or glacier treks. In the evening, you’ll return to Srinagar for another comfortable night’s stay.
Day 8: Srinagar Full Day Sightseeing**
Immerse yourself in Srinagar’s charm with a full day of sightseeing. Your itinerary will include visits to the beautiful Mughal Gardens, encompassing Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi, followed by an exploration of the Shankaracharya Temple for panoramic city views. You’ll also have time to explore the local markets and shop for handicrafts, culminating in a night’s stay in Srinagar.
Day 9: Srinagar to Jammu Airport or Railway Station Drop**
As your journey comes to a close, you’ll check out from your Srinagar accommodation. Depending on your departure time, you’ll be transferred to Jammu’s airport or railway station for your onward journey. This marks the end of your memorable trip through this stunning region.
